Are you one of those who like their skin smooth and soft? Then you’re not the
only one. These days’ lots of men and women get their body hair removed, not
just body builders. It’s becoming quite the trend.
Millions of people everywhere, spend a substantial part of their lives
removing unwanted hair by temporary methods such as- waxing, shaving, applying
chemical depilatories and laser hair removal. Electrolysis is a semi permanent;
though time consuming method of hair removal. During electrolysis each
individual hair follicle is cauterized and destroyed.
The most effective and economical method of hair removal is waxing. In
waxing, a sticky substance (resin) is applied to the skin. The resin binds the
hair to a strip of cloth; on being pulled in the opposite direction of hair
growth, the cloth comes off with hair. Both small and large areas can be waxed,
with a minimum amount of discomfort, it is therefore, very popular. There are
two ways to wax-warm wax and cold wax.
Cold wax that comes in tubes is easy to use at home. The instructions on the
package are easy to follow, it is also very convenient to acquire as it is sold
in any drug store. Warm waxing is the kind done in salons. It is more effective
tan cold waxing. Hair removal is possible from any part of the body, including
the mustache, chin, eyebrows, legs and bikini line.
Another temporary hair removal technique is shaving. It cuts off hair at skin
surface. It is a common misconception that it makes the hair shaft thicker,
darker r that it makes hair grow faster or slower. But hair shaft is more
noticeable because, it has a blunt tip rather tan the natural tapering. To avoid
cuts and scrapes, some sort of moisturizer should be applied before shaving,
such as-water, shaving cream, hair conditioner, or body wash.
Another way of hair removal is to melt it away, literally using depilatories.
Chemical hair removers called depilatories contain a mixture of thioglycolate
with sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide. The thioglycolate disrupts the
disulphide bonds, which are the chemical bonds that hold skin and hair cells
together. Thioglycolate is more effective on disulphide bonds containing a
protein-cystine, which happens to be present in the hair cells. Thus hair melts
away, but a major disadvantage is the chemical removers may cause skin
irritation as it also eats away a few skin cells.
The semi-permanent technique of hair removal, electrolysis is done, by
inserting a fine needle into each hair follicle to electrify the hair follicle
root. By theory, it is burning the hair root to prevent it from producing more
hair. It may take several treatments to destroy the follicles as each one is to
be treated individually. This treatment has its own draw backs-there are no
standardized licensing guidelines for electrolysis. Therefore, it is difficult
to find a technician with satisfied clients. Another drawback is that
electrolysis requires repeated treatments for up to 12 to 18 months.
The latest and most promising and permanent way of removing hair are laser
hair removal. When energy is sent into the pigment of the hair shaft by a laser,
it is absorbed by the surrounding follicle. The heat produced during absorption,
damages the hair follicle and thus production of hair ends. Since laser damages
more than one follicle at a time, it is efficient in large areas such as the
back, as well as arms, legs and smaller areas such as the upper lip or bikini
line. It can be used on all portions of the body except near the eyes, so if
you’re planning to be free of extra clothing this summer, why not make heads
turn with that silky smooth skin. So rid that unwanted hair and smooth your self
with hair removal techniques.
