Skin Serums

For a long time skin serums were used almost exclusively in spas as part of a facial treatment. Only recently facial serums have invaded the beauty market and become one of the most recommended beauty products by dermatologists. So what are these serums, when do you use them, and how can they help your skin? Facial serums in general are intended to: firm and tighten skin, normalize oil production, prevent breakouts, help reduce the signs of aging, and increase your skin’s ability to regenerate cells faster resulting in elasticity and more youthful and brighter looking skin. They are definitely on the pricier side of beauty products since they are so concentrated and full of vitamins. Serums are stronger than moisturizers because they contain up to 70% of active ingredient(s) – moisturizers generally contain 5% to 15% active ingredient(s). Who needs serums? During cold weather season almost everybody’s skin needs hydrating boosts like skin hydrating serums. You can get many types of serums such as anti-aging serums, lifting and energizing serums, skin brightening serums and even acne preventative serums. Serums are also great for people with very oily skin, as they can use them as their moisturizer. There are also skin serums more geared towards oily, acneic skin with large pores, so it is probably best solution for this skin type.

How to apply serums? A face serum is generally applied as part of your daily skin care program, right after the toner but before moisturizing. Apply a drop or two of serum to your fingertips and massage it gently into your face and neck skin in the morning and at night, then follow with your usual moisturizer. Results are visible almost immediately but give it a few weeks to see larger change.
